The Swiss Advanced Manufacturing Community Events (SAMCE) are especially made for junior scientists, such as graduates, doctoral students and postdocs, as well as other academic staff active in advanced manufacturing in Switzerland. We also welcome senior master students who want to present their research activities and projects in advanced manufacturing that are related to their master theses.

We are looking for active participants who strive for scientific exchange and who are prepared to share and discuss ideas, to support and to work with colleagues across disciplines and institutions. We are looking for contributions for the following 12 topics referring either to production technologies or to cross-technology topics:

With our summer event we aim to bring together and inspire our community in advanced manufacturing in our first in-person event. We have a dense and diversified program with different modules which are described in more detail on this page. On the second day of the event, the participants can attend optional industry workshops.

The conference dinner is free of charge and takes place at PrestigeBowling in Dübendorf. Transportation to the dinner location will be organized for attendees. The bowling alley is located within 10 minutes walking distance of the Dübendorf train station.

Industry Workshop
On the second day of the event, we are offering the opportunity to get in contact with experts from industry, learn about technical challenges they face and discuss together possible approaches on how to solve these challenges. The target audience is young researchers who want to learn about applied research outside academia, but also senior researchers who seek interesting collaborations with industry partners.

The presenting representatives from industry and a more detailed program will follow soon.

Venue: ETH Zurich, NO Building (Sonneggstrasse 5, 8092 Zurich)

08:30
Start of workshop

  • Swiss businesses pitch a technical challenge they seek a new perspective on
  • Scientists from different research institutes and working in various fields discuss the challenge in small groups
  • Ideas and approaches to solve the challenge are presented and discussed in a plenary session
12:00
End of workshop
The participation in the SAMCE Summer Event 2022 is free of charge, but the number of participants is limited. Priority is given to participants who submit a contribution.  Please submit a short abstract (use the template file!) and complete the online registration form by 30 June 2022.

You can give two kinds of talks:
Picture
CONNECT
Early stage researchers shortly present a challenge they are currently facing and for which they are seeking a new perspective.
Picture
IGNITE
Researchers present in short pitches new cutting-edge technologies and their ideas on how they cross borders and enter unknown territory.
Each talk lasts 3 minutes. Every session is followed by an EXCHANGE module (30 minutes) where speakers can discuss their pitches with other participants. The different program modules are described in more detail on this page. The session topics are listed in the "About" tab.
