Robots, Automation and Learning Systems

SAMCE 2021 | Fall Series - Online event on 11 November 2021, 15:00 - 16:15

Picture
Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, digitalization and industry 4.0. Thanks to robots and learning systems, the level of automation is constantly increasing in many industry sectors. Researchers often use new methods and approaches that are developed for other applications to produce even more powerful automation solutions for our industry. More about the range of this topic can be read here.

At the beginning of the event, the participants were asked what excites them most about the topic of 'Robots, Automation and Learning Systems'. In an online poll, the attendees could submit their answers. The 'Word Cloud' below shows that AI, machine learning and interactions with the system seem to be among the most exciting topics in this field of research.

Program
With our Fall Series we aim to bring together and inspire our community in advanced manufacturing in short online events. We have a dense and diversified program with different modules which are described in more detail on this page. The program of this event is shown below. The respective presentations are available as PDF downloads.

Topic
Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, digitalization and industry 4.0. Thanks to robots and learning systems, the level of automation is constantly increasing in many industry sectors. Researchers often use new methods and approaches that are developed for other applications to produce even more powerful automation solutions for our industry.

In our second event, we aim to cover the following topics:
  • Industrial robots for material handling, processing operations, assembly and inspection, including traditional robots and collaborative robots, but also exoskeletons
  • Automation of individual manufacturing processes or production lines, including the monitoring and (closed-loop) control of such processes or production lines
  • Learning systems in manufacturing processes and production lines, in particular systems that use tools such as control theory, machine learning, pattern recognition or computer vision
  • Hardware components of industrial robots, automation and learning systems, e.g. sensors (optical, acoustic, electrical, mechanical, etc.) or actuators (motors, grippers, arms, etc.)

We believe that it is decisive in this topic to bring together people across disciplines and to connect data scientists with researchers from different domains in advanced manufacturing. Therefore, to strengthen the community also in this domain, we dedicate our second event in the Fall Series to "Robots, Automation and Learning Systems".
